Preface
The papers contained in this Volume represent a selection of those presented at the sixteenth annual meeting of the Illinois Medieval Association, entitled "X: Out of Bounds." The conference was held 19 and 20 February, 1999, at DePaul University, with Anne Clark Bartlett as convener. Carolyn Dinshaw was the plenary speaker.
At the regular business meeting and reception held in the Cortelyou Commons of DePaul University, the following officers were announced for 1999-2000. Anne Clark Bartlett (DePaul University) was elected president; Barbara Rosenwein (Loyola University Chicago) was elected vice-president; and Bill Fahrenbach (DePaul University), David Wagner (Northern Illinois), and Bailey K. Young (Eastern Illinois University, Charleston) were elected counselors. Allen J. Frantzen (Loyola University Chicago) continues as Executive Secretary.
The editorial board for this Volume included Anne Clark Bartlett, Allen J. Frantzen, Barbara Rosenwein, and David Wagner. We thank Bryon Grigsby and anonymous readers for their assistance.
The 1999 meeting of the IMA would not have been possible without the help of numerous people and organizations. For their generous financial support, we are especially grateful to Michael Mezey, Dean of Liberal Arts and Sciences, DePaul University; to Helen Marlborough, Chair of the Department of English at DePaul; and to Richard Meister, Executive Vice-President of Academic Affairs at DePaul. We also want to acknowledge the very kind support and assistance of Stephanie Quinn, Associate Vice-President for Academic Affairs at DePaul, and of our student assistants, Alex Jochaniewicz and Edwina Davis.
The 2000 meeting of IMA will be co-sponsored by the Medieval Studies Committee of Loyola University Chicago and the Medieval Studies Workshop of the University of Chicago.
